Not Everyone Wants It?

As I think about today and all the trials and troubles in it I remember the word of God, says to bring all our cares to the Lord because He cares for us. Not long ago my Pastor at my church recognized me to the church as a fighter. I will fight in the spirit and never give up! Then He ask me why? As I think about the question, I remember when I was using drugs and alcohol, I was living in sin and going nowhere. My life was chaotic, and confusing, and my children 2 of them at that time, we scared, and confused. They were not sure they were loved, they were not secure, nor did they feel significant, nor did I. The reason I will never give up is because I have nothing to go back to, and everything o fight for.

We all need to know we are loved, significant, and secure. If one of these is missing in our life, we tend to look for it in all the wrong places. We might look for it in drugs, or alcohol, it might be we hook up with the wrong person. Might be an abusive relationship. Our past can dictate our future if we let it. If we are lacking any of these things, there is an empty spot inside us and we look and look but can’t find it.

Thing is, it’s Jesus we are looking for. He can fill those empty spaces in us. We look to the flesh and the world to make us feel loved, significant, and secure, but in reality, people can’t make you feel that way. Even people in good relationships or that are from good families can still fall into addiction, bad relationships, or other life controlling problems. The only one we can say we get all three from is Jesus Christ.

Loved- For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16

Significant- to know that our lives have meaning and purpose. I know the plans I have for you declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Jeremiah 29:11

Secure- to feel accepted and have a sense of belonging. I have redeemed you I have called you by name, you are mine declare the Lord. Isaiah 43:1

Sometimes we get hungry to fill these inner needs that we go out looking for something else to fill the emptiness. In my experience, when I worked for a Christian residential recovery program for women, some of these women would get set free, be on fire for the Lord, feel like they could conquer the world with Jesus. But after graduation, going home to a life that had not changed, eventually fell back into life issues. Now remember I am saying some, defiantly not all! The struggle would get real and they would find themselves back doing what they were just set free from. When trouble hits our life, we begin to feel the way we felt before freedom. Lack of love, Significance, and security. We begin to drift away from the Lord and go back to what we know.

Moses led all the Israelites out of bondage in Egypt. They all saw miracles, they saw the red sea part for them to go through, among many other miracles. But when the trouble started, they wanted to return to slavery. They forgot how bad it was for them and were ready to go back to Egypt.

We view our past through rose colored glasses. We tend to forget what it was really like. We forget Jesus loves us, we mean something to Him and He will accept us not matter who we are or what we have done. It can be a hard road but we can life in freedom. We have to want it and might even have to fight for it. It’s up to us. Please let me know if this blog has helped you in any way or if you have comments. God Bless!
