A Lie You Believe Is the Truth You Live By

By Treva Susuras

When we grow up, we are taught what to believe about ourselves by the things that happen in our lives, by the word’s others speak over us, or the experiences we encounter. For example, a beautiful young girl can hear how ugly she is and by the time she is grown no matter what she is told, even though she is beautiful, she will believe the lie and live out her life as an ugly duckling. It’s a lie, but she believes it so it is the truth she lives by. I wonder, is there a lie you believe or should I say, your truth? I for one believed I was stupid growing up. My life and the things that happened to me caused me to believe that lie. I was crazy shy growing up ( believe it or not) so when I was in in school and the teacher would call on me to answer a question, I would not answer questions even though I knew the answers because I was afraid I would have the wrong answer and embarrass myself. So, when I was called on to answer a question, I would not answer anything, that made me look like I didn’t know the answers. That made me feel like I was stupid. I was told by many people, it’s a good thing I was so pretty because you’re not very smart. Let me just say, I lived up to the expectation, I believed a lie for the first 30 years of my life. Drugs helped me be smarter…Ha… so I thought,,, so I did drugs. Alcohol helped me forget all my troubles and so that is what I did which led me on a downhill spiral. This not only affected me but I had two children at the time. It affected us all. My mom worried about me day and night, and she was left to take care of my two children. We really don’t realize it but what we do and what we believe affects everyone around us or everyone that loves us. Let me tell you, what you believe about yourself is what you get. Who you are is who you think you are. Your life is what you think it is. The lie has to stop! You are who God says you are.

You can be easily offended if you already believe a lie about yourself. Check you heart. Truth is God can heal you, change you, forgive you, love you, you are beautiful in Christ, set free in Christ. We are not what the world has taught us but we are who the Lord God Almighty says we are. Our victory is in Jesus! It is like an onion, we have to begin to peel back the layers one layer at a time. If you feel like a stupid person, look and see if God created any stupid people from the beginning. Like Jesus said, “I WILL CREATE A STUPID PERSON” No He didn’t. He did say if we want wisdom to ask for it. Thing is, the people that are stupid only think they are stupid. They are not. The word of God tells us we all have the mind of Christ. (1 Corinthians 2:16)

You might be thinking, “you don’t know me, I’m a failure, I try and fall, try and fall. My life is in shambles. I make bad decisions, I’m lonely, I am not lovable…” Well no I may not know you, but I know Jesus. All things are possible through Him. We all have some kind of struggle in this life. Question is are we ready to conquer it? Are we ready to renew our thinking? Romans 12:2

Are you easily offended? You know the only way we can be offended is if you believe what the person is saying in the first place. You may know what the word of God says, but do you know it in your knower? In your heart? We have to get it from our mind to our heart, our belief system. If you can get firm on who you are in Christ, it will be harder for you to become offended, and you will begin to see others through the eyes of Jesus. Think of this, if someone comes up to you and says something negative about something you are confident in, does it hurt you? No because you know better. You know for a fact it’s not true. But if they come to you and say something about something you are not confident in, something you have been believing about yourself, it can devastate you and take you on the road to failure, depression, or even failure to do something God HAS called you to do, but because you believe the lie and someone comes along and says something that reminds you of the lie, especially if they didn’t know you already believed it, it reaffirms it and stops you dead in your tracks.

Then, when the devil gets you to be offended, he can actually cause you to blame the person that said something, and even begin to hate them for what they said. When in fact if you hadn’t believed it in the first place, from somewhere in your past, it wouldn’t have hurt you. Remember it is not that person that is trying to get you to fall, it is the devil. Unfortunately, sometimes that is all it takes to stop us from believing in ourselves and in God’s ability to work through us.

It’s time to expose the lies the enemy the devil has led you to believe about yourself and get on with living the abundant life God has called you to live. Above and beyond anything we can imagine. A life of love and prosperity. Jeremiah 29:11 I know the plans I have for you declares the Lord…
